How Catherine Reversed Type 2 Diabetes and Transformed Her Health

“Normal” is not necessarily healthy

A few years ago, Catherine was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Over the course of those few years, her doctor rotated multiple medications for her based on her A1c and symptomology at her appointments. At this time, she saw this as normal and didn’t consider any other way.

Ready for a change

Last summer, she began to grow concerned about the effects of the medications when she found out that some of them were associated with alarming side effects including a higher risk of developing kidney disease. Her social media algorithm must have known she was looking for alternative solutions, because one day she saw information about the Mastering Diabetes approach in her news feed. She watched a few videos to see what it was about, then purchased and read the Mastering Diabetes book so that she could learn more about the philosophy.

After reading the book, Catherine knew she wanted to give this approach a try. She also knew that she would have the best success at doing that if she had guidance from the experts themselves, so she booked a Discovery Call with the Mastering Diabetes team.

She was beginning to see another side to her situation, and she wanted to try something new. She realized that she was only 50 years old yet she felt terrible. Her joints were achy, she had low energy, and she was on multiple medications to control her blood glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol, overweight, and more. Her doctor didn’t discuss diet or other ways to address the underlying cause of her chronic disease, so she knew she needed to find other support on that front. 

The results she never imagined would happen

She joined the group program and immediately began seeing positive results. After less than two months, Catherine was able to stop taking ALL of her medications (diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure, acid reflux). Her A1c was dropping and her blood pressure and cholesterol returned to normal levels. Even her acid reflux went away, which she had dealt with since her teens. She had always assumed that acid reflux was just the price she had to pay for being a coffee lover, but now she drinks just as much coffee as ever while experiencing zero acid reflux. Additionally, she said within the first week of working with the Mastering Diabetes program, her energy levels skyrocketed. She said she has never had so much energy in her life as she does now! She can keep up with her grandkids, and she no longer experiences achy joints.

Catherine also has costochondritis (arthritis in the cartilage of her chest) and ever since being diagnosed as a teenager, the condition would always act up and become more painful in the winter months. After starting the Mastering Diabetes program, she did not experience this at all for the first time in decades.

The beauty of being on the other side

Making the dietary transition was a process and she had to rewire how she thought about food, but it’s become second-nature. She loves her daily meals, which consist of things like enchiladas, salads with chickpeas and tahini dressing, banana ice cream, pasta with tomato sauce, and lots of fruit!

Since having this experience, Catherine has a whole new outlook on health and disease. She knows that the way she eats has a profound influence on how she feels and how her body functions, so she makes her diet a priority.
