Christie is no stranger to type 2 diabetes. For years, she was not only personally living with the disease, but was also the primary caregiver for her mother who was struggling with complications of type 2 diabetes – namely multiple diabetic wounds.
She saw firsthand how much diabetes can tear down the body over time. While the doctors were able to grow sterilized skin grafts for some of the wounds, others had infections that ultimately led to a loss of mobility in her legs. Christie knew she needed to do everything in her power to make sure she didn’t suffer the same fate.
When Christie found Mastering Diabetes, she was struggling with this goal. She had an A1c of 10.8 and her blood glucose was going into the high 300s to low 400s. Her doctors had raised her medication dosages to 2000mg metformin, 28mg glipizide, and they had recently added insulin to the mix. It was time to do something different.
She joined the 6-week challenge program and jumped in 100%, making a radical shift in her lifestyle overnight. Although Christie did the work, she gives much of the credit for her ability to make (and stick to) the lifestyle changes to her coach and small group. Their support helped her to get through the tough moments and stay on track through the bumps along the way.
In 6 weeks, she lowered her A1c from 10.8 to 8.3, and since then it has gone down to 6.8. You can see this along with her other progress documented below:
Header | May 2022 | January 2025 |
---|---|---|
A1c (%) | 10.8 | 6.8 |
Fasting Blood Glucose (mg/dL) | 320 | 130 |
Weight (kg) | 320 | 270 |
Medications | 2000mg Metformin, 28mg Glipizide, Jardiance, Insulin, Meniouro | No more metformin, No more Diabetic Retinopathy, no more eye injections |
Christie says that the Mastering Diabetes method helped her to fall back in love with food again. For years, food had become the enemy. It was stressful and confusing. But now, food has helped her to heal herself. It feels like a positive part of her life, something that supports her goals rather than holds her back.
FIguring out what to eat has become much easier in time. Rather than using recipes, these days Christie has a mental archive of what she likes and what she needs to do to pull together a delicious meal. It’s become easy and second nature.
Other than her coach and community support, Christie says that the most important things to ensure your success are to have a strong “why” (purpose behind the actions), staying disciplined, and having a plan (thinking ahead to set yourself up for success).

Now, Christie is inspired to show other people what success looks like and to encourage others on their journey of healing and reversing type 2 diabetes.
“What do you have to lose by trying?” She says. “The hardest step to take is the first one. But if you know your why, if you know what you want to achieve, and if you take that first step to get there, someone will be there to take your hand help you make the rest of the journey.”
“What do you have to lose? If you don’t make any changes, then you’ll lose your sight, your health, your ability to feel sensation. That’s what you’ll lose. Don’t let that happen. Take the first step.”
